Harry Reid, like Pelosi, has trouble telling the truth

Nancy Pelosi promised no earmarks or pet projects were in the Stimulus Packages, and they were packed with the pork. Nancy Pelosi argued that she was never advised that water-boarding was being used as an interrogation technique, but the CIA said she was. She then turned around and essentially called the CIA a bunch of liars.

I know that politicians are known to be liars, but the Democrats take it to a whole new level.

Now, enter stage left, Harry Reid, Pelosi's close buddy, and colleague. He can't seem to get the facts straight either.

In fact, in one appearance, he fouled up three statements.

Reid was asked if Senator Edward Kennedy's cancer was in remission, and Reid replied, "Yes." Turns out, however, that Kennedy's office refused to confirm Reid's comments. Silence in Washington is a classic affirmation.

Reid was then asked about the health of Senator Robert C. Byrd. Reid indicated that Byrd was released from the hospital, or perhaps would be later in the week. Senator Byrd's spokeswoman stated that there has been no determination of when he will be released.

Finally, when asked if the Democrats in the Senate would join the House Democrats in withholding the money for closing Guantanamo Bay prison, he stated that "We will never allow terrorists to be released into the United States."

Conservatives have suggested that if Guantanamo Bay prison is closed, sending the prisoners home would be foolish because each of them would either face a death sentence, or be reabsorbed into the world of terror. The only other option would be to either release the prisoners into the free world, or place them in American prisons, but unacceptable options.

Though there had been no talk among the Democrats of releasing terror suspects among the American populace, his statement suggested there had been such discussions. Then, to try to clarify, he dug a deeper hole stating, "We don't want them put in prisons in the United States, we don't want them around the United States."

The question arose, then, that the Obama Administration was asking for money for closing Guantanamo Bay without setting out how the money would be spent.

Reid claimed "Not at all," while his fellow Democrat, Dick Durbin responded, "Yes."

These comments come from a well known partisan super-spender who recently also bungled the handling of Illinois Senator Roland Burris, stating that Burris would never be seated. He bowed to public pressure, when an outcry arose over his comments.

His popularity in Nevada is in trouble, but the GOP hasn't found a candidate to unseat Reid with, yet.

Nonetheless, between Obama's gaffes, Pelosi's accusations that the CIA is full of a bunch of liars, and Reid's inability to get facts straight, the Democratic Party is running into some trouble, and considering the fact that Reid's Senate Seat is up in 2010, it may be very possible the Republicans will take his seat in the next election.

As an added note, after Harry Reid vowed that Guantanamo detainees would never be released on American soil, Michele Flournoy, the under secretary of Defense for policy, said "I think there will be some that need to end up in the United States."

California Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein echoed Ms. Flournoy, saying she favored moving Gitmo Bay prisoners to the United States.
