Toy Guns

James Dobson was once asked about whether or not parents should by their little boys play with toy guns. Dobson responded that boys are naturally drawn to games that utilize toy guns. He suggests that the radical feminist movement has been trying to feminize boys, efforts which are misguided and foolish. God created boys to be more competitive, more action-oriented, and more aggressive than girls.

As a part of play, toy guns simple fit in with the nature of boys.

Dr. Dobson also said, "I tell you what, you do have some things to worry about at that age group, but going 'bang, bang' with a gun is not one of them. I think we've just made so big a deal out of that. The violence that's occurring on the school campuses today does not come out of that. It comes out of anger. It comes out of frustration. It comes out of rejection. It comes out of bullying. It comes out of all kinds of things, but it does not come out of giving a three- or four- or five- or six- or seven-year-old a toy gun. I think that's ridiculous. If you don't give your boy a gun, he will eat a peanut butter sandwich into the shape of a gun or a cucumber or a carrot or something, because they're fascinated with them. And there's no emotion to it. They're not killing. This is just the way they are made. Their interest in guns is like their interest in trucks and balls and competition and those other things. And I would not spend a lot of time worrying about that. Get the kid a toy gun."

In addition, I would like to add that kids that are raised around fire arms learn to respect the weapons, and are less likely to use it in a harmful way. Guns are simply tools, and when one is taught how to use the tool properly, the person can use the tool in a safe and enjoyable manner, as well as a means to protect one's property if need be.
