Cash For Clunkers and U.S. Congress

The Cash For Clunkers program is not what it seems. It may stimulate a small sector of the economy for a short time (of which the media is proclaiming it is wildly successful and are dropping to their knees in praise of Obama), but its real goal has nothing to do with the economy. The "clunkers," upon being used as trade-ins, are to be destroyed (or at least the engines are) within 48 hours of being turned in.

Ask yourself: Why?

This program, disguised as an economic boost using deficit spending (they claimed they ran out of money for the program, which is laughable - the whole government is out of money - Obama can't wipe his nose without increasing the deficit), is simply designed to get more cars the Left does not like off the road, and more "greener" cars that they approve of on the road. But getting those carbon-emitting monsters of massive carbon footprints (you know, the popular SUVs, Trucks, Vans, etc.) off the road is not enough - they have to make sure they are destroyed so that they cannot return.

In Zombie movies you shoot the accursed thing in the forehead to kill it for good. Destroying the engine block in these non-green cars is akin to putting a bullet in a zombie's brain.

In other words, they want to make sure these cars don't rise again. They are dictating to you what you should drive, and that once you let go of something they don't like, they are making sure no one else can own it too.

That seems insidious to me. It is none of their business what I drive, and it is not their job to make sure I don't drive what they don't want me to drive. Who are they to make these kinds of decisions regarding my liberty? The market will decide if small, weak, gutless, expensive hybrid cars should dominate the industry based on consumer interest and activity. It is not the place of the government to make that decision for us.

Besides, if it was so easy to get rid of good-for-nothing clunkers with this Cash for Clunkers program, why can't we turn in the biggest clunker of them all?
