Parade Says "No" to Mrs. Claus

By Douglas V. Gibbs

In Raleigh, North Carolina, Mrs. Claus was not allowed to participate in the Christmas parade. The parade committee said it was because children may not be able to distinguish between Santa and his significant other, considering their similar red outfits.

Hmmm, fat guy with a gray beard versus slender woman in a red dress.

To avoid problems the parade folks even discourage onlookers from wearing "Santa Hats."

Do they think the possible confusion could cause irreparable damage to the confused kid's psychological well-being?

This is a great example of officials over-thinking.

Let Mrs. Claus march with Santa, let everyone wear Santa Hats if they want to, and if there is a poor, confused child in the audience not sure who is who, let the kid ask their parents. Yes, yes, I know, it seems amazing to leave such a tough responsibility to a parent, but I think they can handle it.
