Religious Extremism

By Douglas V. Gibbs

I was listening to a pastor speak on KWVE radio yesterday and the pastor mentioned Paul Krugman. Krugman is a dirt-bag to the tenth degree, and I am very familiar with Krugman's political opinions, so his name being mentioned perked up my ears. The pastor said that Krugman once wrote that we as a nation need to guard against religious extremism.

On the surface, that makes sense. After all, Islam is using terror, coupled with religious extremism, to convert people to the Muslim religion by the sword.

But, here's the problem. Krugman wasn't talking about Islam - He was referring to Christianity.

The world seems to have this notion that Christians desire a theocracy, a forced Christian society. Problem is, that wouldn't be true conversion.

Unlike Islam, Christians view a person's relationship with God as being a personal matter, and a choice to be made by the individual through free will, and without reprisal. The Lord wants us to love Him through faith, not through force.

Leftists seem to be worried that somebody that reads a Bible might become a politician in Washington too! And we can't have that, they will claim!

Oh, My! How Dreadful! You mean someone who espouses standards?

Yeah, yeah, I know the leftists think Christians are a bunch of hypocrites because we are not perfect - but think about it:

What would you rather have? Would you prefer someone with standards, who admittedly is not perfect, and sometimes fails to meet all standards they set for themselves? And then when they stumble feel badly about it, repent, and then continue on to try to meet their standards? Or would you prefer a person with no standards who are in it for themselves, and are chastising Christians for having standards?

Hmmmmmm. . .
