Yemen Al Qaeda Attacked By Order Of White House

By Douglas V. Gibbs

According to the New York Times, the U.S. provided firepower, intelligence and other support to the government of Yemen as it carried out raids this week to strike at suspected hide-outs of Al Qaeda within its borders, according to officials familiar with the operations.

The order to use American forces to help kill at least 34 militants in Yemen came directly from the White House (hence, the Obama Administration).

Shocking.

ABC News reported that the attack included American missiles, and the combined American and Yemen strategery conked a major dent in the works of Al Qaeda, and the threat they pose to the security of free nations around the world.

I have to reluctantly give Obama a pat on the back for a good decision.

But this news makes me wonder. Where are all of those anti-war freaks protesting in the streets? Where are the die-ins depicting the deaths of the poor Yemeni women and children that may, or may not, have gotten caught in the cross fire? Where are the San Francisco protesters that block the entrances of military recruiting stations? Where's Code Pink's offensive surge into governmental meetings? If Bush had ordered this assistance to Yemen to carry out these raids, the media would have been all over the Bush Administration, but everytime Obama escalates the war on terror, they praise him as brilliant (except a few of them weren't real happy with the 30,000 additional troops for Afghanistan). Had Bush given the order to help Yemen in such a way, and the media and bloggers had gotten a hold of the data, we would have seen phrases on the blogs and in the media like, "Bush Warmongers in Yemen," or "Bush spreading war across the globe," or "Bush killing more people."

Obama orders such a move, and everybody is cool with it.

What's the difference between war waged by a Republican, and war waged by a Democrat?

Perspective by the left.
