Rahm Emanuel, Rush Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin on the word "Retard"

By Douglas V. Gibbs

After Rahm Emanuel's use of the word "retard" gained media attention, Sarah Palin spoke out against it, and even called for Rahm's resignation. Rush Limbaugh then provided commentary over the situation on his radio show, and now liberals are calling for Sarah Palin to speak out against Rush's use of the word as well. However, Palin did not.

Rahm Emanuel's use of the word was in a derogatory manner, Rush's use of the word was in relation to commentary on Rahm's use of the word. I was listening to Rush Limbaugh's radio program when he addressed this issue, and when in context, it is apparent that Rush Limbaugh was not using the word in the way that he is being accused. The context was specifically that he was repeating the word as Rahm used it, and used the word again as a speculative political commentary from the angle of the Democrats, in essence using absurdity to illustrate the Democrat Party's absurdity.

Nobody should use the word in a derogatory manner, but to give commentary about someone who used the word in such a way is something totally different.

What is even more interesting is how folks have completely overlooked the fact that in addition to the word "retard," Rahm Emanuel also threw around the F-Bomb. Apparently shooting his mouth off in such a profane way is fine with the left. So much for professionalism.

One thing can be said about how big this issue over what Rahm said became. The only person to call him out on this was Sarah Palin, and the issue became huge as a result. If anything, that shows the power of Sarah Palin.
