Michelle Bachmann Criticizes Obama's Nuclear Weapons Policy

By Douglas V. Gibbs

As my good friend, Andrea Shea King, continues to roll with the Tea Party Express III, she had the opportunity to meet Michelle Bachmann, and wrote about it here:Rep. Michele Bachmann meets The Radio Patriot .

Michelle Bachmann has also been in the news for more than her association with the Tea Party. Recently, the Left went on the attack against Michelle for criticizing Obama for his new rules regarding the use of nuclear weapons. . . in fact, Chris Matthews and Ron Reagan had a few things to say about Bachmann's position: "I never thought of using nuclear weapons against somebody hacking into our system here, our computer system." - as if a cyber-attack means folks won't be able to update their Facebook, or something.

Matthews uses a quote Reagan used about the danger of nuclear weapons, and his wish that the world could rid itself of those terrible weapons, but on the same token, remember it was Ronald Reagan that understood that despite the terrible potential of nuclear weapons, we must maintain our arsenal to preserve the peace (Peace Through Strength).

Any sane person would love to see the world without these terrible weapons, a world without war, and a world without violence. That is a noble desire, and I believe a universal one. The reality is that people like Kim Jong Il or Ahmadinejad don't just need to be sat down by Obama, or Hillary, or Jane Fonda to see the light regarding peace, pansies, and unicorns. (I am expecting a John Lennon song to break out at any moment. . . )

The fact is, the world is full of radical crazies that can, and will (if given the chance) use weapons like biological warfare, cyber-attacks, and even nuclear devices, to gain more power, and to eliminate who they perceive to be the enemy. Knowing that this kind of craziness exists in the world, it makes no sense to lower our guard, or advise the world of our limits before we are willing to use nuclear weapons (it's like saying, "Go ahead, Iran, hit us with bio-weapons, we will only nuke you if you use nukes." - why do you tell the enemy things like that? It makes no sense to show your hand. . .)

Nuclear weapons are sort of like guns. The gun control crowd wants to take guns away from law abiding citizens, but what that does is take the guns from good people (leaving them with no way to defend themselves), but allows the criminals to still be armed (the criminal element will always find a way to get their hands on guns). Same thing with nuclear weapons. We have them to keep the crazies from using theirs. If we disarm, we will be a target - simple as that.
