Getting Tough With BP is Political Posturing

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The Obama Administration is like a rooster puffing out its feathers. Obama has used phrases like "I will not tolerate" to make it look like the big bad government is in control, when in reality they are a bunch of spineless cowards that have no idea what to do next. Such is the case with British Petroleum, and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Amidst threats by Salazar and Gibbs about having a boot on the throat of BP, Obama is threatening to BP to "Clean this mess up, or we will."

If the Democrats in power could clean it up, wouldn't they have already?

The fact is the Obama Administration, and his minstrel of merry Congressional idiots, want badly to take control of the situation, as they threaten with everything else, but all they know how to do is bark orders and set blame. It is easy to shout from the sidelines, but can the Democrats actually get anything done?

Of course not, because cleaning up this mess does not fit their agenda that includes destroying and controlling the oil industry.

In reality, I speculate that much of the horde of Democrats are secretly excited about what is going on because they desire to stop oil drilling, and an opportunity to point to the evils of drilling, like this one, does not come around often. In fact, their only disappointment is that the spill is not worse, and that the coastline is not drenched in oil so that they could spray the images all over the media for the people to see, thus creating an outrage against evil BP, and the evil oil companies.

In the end, like it or not, the federal government needs BP. The oil company has the equipment and the know-how to stop this disaster from continuing for months as has some spills of the past. And what is funniest about it all is the planet will heal from it, and history will look back and view the Obama administration as being more like the Keystone Cops running around in circles, than a controlled federal government with the boot on the throats of BP.
