Thuggish Politics

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Today's Democrats in Washington DC are the worst I've ever seen when it comes to the "sure, you can have an opinion, but keep it to yourself" attitude.

But even worse is the thuggish attitude of "Do as we say, or we crush you."

Rahm Emanuel has been hammered for his inappropriate language, but the latest is unacceptable, recently yelling to a male staffer: "Take your f***ing tampon out and tell me what you have to say."

Meanwhile, in their dealings with British Petroleum and the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Democrats are declaring they (a la Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs) have their "boot on the throat of BP."

Could you imagine if any Republican said that on anything?

Thuggish politics. There is no other way to explain it. They might as well say, "Do as we say, or get the f**k out of our way."

Wasn't it this kind of attitude by King George III that was one of the variables that encouraged the American Revolution 234 years ago?
