Absence of Christians on the Left

By Douglas V. Gibbs

There is such a thing as leftist Christians, though most would tell you that those two words are a contradiction in terms. Social justice through the means of government seems to be their opinion, and biblical text over Christ's teachings to help the poor, and so forth, is their supposed justification.

Except, scripture has us doing these things as individuals, not under the iron fist of a governmental system. Love is a voluntary endeavor, not one to be forced by taxation and government mandate.

Leftism, for the most part, is inhabited by unbelievers. Communism showed us how much governmental systems of a socialist nature abhors any belief system that worships God. People who have a faith in God place God's law above any oppressive governmental system, and therefore are more difficult to control. Also, oppressive governmental systems desire that government be all things to the people, and if the people worship God, that makes government second fiddle. Authoritarian systems, for that reason, tend to be Godless.

Knowing this, it is no surprise that Americans that do not attend church form the base of Obama's support. Tavis Smiley of PBS even goes so far as to claim that Christians are terrorists far more numerous and dangerous than Islamic Terrorists, and claims the Tea Party movement to be worst than the Jihad. Of course his assertation is idiotic, but I mention it to show how insane the Left can truly be.

As the battle between political ideologies advances, it is becoming clear that this is ceasing to be a battle between Republicans and Democrats, Left and Right, or Liberals and Conservatives. It has become a battle of right versus wrong. The choice is clear. Either we head towards economic collapse, and societal unrest like Greece is currently facing, or return to the principles that made this nation prosperous over the last two centuries. After all, the U.S. Constitution was written to limit the powers of the government, and to protect the people from government (not protect the government from the people).

The ultimate question is, are we willing to do the work it will take to return to the principles of the U.S. Constitution? Or will we someday be telling our grandchildren what America was like long ago when men were still free?
