Is British Petroleum Guilty of Shortcuts?

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The Democrats on Capitol Hill are convinced that if we just regulated the industry just a little more it would be safer, and nothing like this will ever happen again. And just to be safe, we'll stop allowing oil companies from drilling in the water for now.

That's like grounding all flights because of a plane crash, and then assigning bureaucrats to follow around the mechanics to make sure they are doing their job, even though the bureaucrat knows nothing about maintaining an aircraft.

Actually, that is not totally true. Nancy Pelosi knows how to maintain the booze in an aircraft.

Oil companies have been banned from drilling on land, in shallow water, and then the government wonders why they were drilling in deep water.

Hmmmm.

Is it possible that BP made mistakes? Sure it is.

But accidents happen. This attitude that we will make sure this never happens again is unrealistic. And as for BP, if they are guilty of something, then that will be determined in the court of law.

Instead of pointing fingers, and trying to demonize them right now, how about the government work with BP to get this oil leak controlled?

Problem is, Washington is populated by a bunch of incompetent lunatics that don't know the first thing about anything beyond pointing fingers, tossing around blame, and making threats.

Is this spill a tragedy?

Absolutely.

Could it have been prevented?

Probably.

Is BP responsible?

To a point.

Okay, now that we have all that out of the way, how about Obama and his Democrat Congressional morons shut the hell up and work "with" the industry to fix the problem.

That is how Leadership works. Leadership does not mean "control," it means "taking the lead," and if that means rolling up the sleeves and jumping into the crud with everyone else, then so be it.

Wow, a government without anyone that understands leadership. No wonder America is pissed.
