Anaheim Woman Stabbed While Reading Bible on her Front Porch

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The newscast said that Alfredo Gonzalez stabbed 69 year old (LA Times states she is 70) Mary Margret Puentes multiple times in the head while she was sitting on her front porch reading her Bible. The 18 year old suspect, a known gang member, was apprehended at a fast-food restaurant. He was booked on a charge of attempted murder.

The victim sustained injuries that are not life-threatening, and is expected to recover fully.

Watching the story develop on my local news television network it made me wonder why a man would do such a thing, and did the fact the woman was reading her Bible play a part in the man's decision? Reading the Bible is a peaceful activity, and an opportunity for personal growth and spiritual fellowship with the Lord. If anything, you would think upon seeing that she had her Bible in her lap that he would have stopped, and backed off.

To those, however, that live lives of torment, like this gang member (and no doubt drug user), the Word of God is threatening. The Truth forces them to look at themselves, and to realize they are on the wrong track, and that they need God.

I am willing to bet the woman is not angry. She is concerned for the man that attacked her, and he will be in her prayers, as he is in mine. Anyone, should they be willing to turn away from their disobedience, is welcome into the arms of Christ.
