Left's Schizophrenia Over Courts, Oil, and the Economy

By Douglas V. Gibbs

It is fascinating that the Democrat's liberal mass of brain-dead leftists consider the courts as being supreme, not to be argued with, and that case law overrides the Constitution, unless, of course, the leftists disagree with the ruling.

Then here comes President Barack Obama with his moratorium on offshore oil drilling, and a federal court said, BUZZ. Then the courts said "no" again!

So what does the Democrats, led by their messiah do?

They bring on a new ban that is more restrictive than the first. And what comes with the new ban during an economic crisis and unemployment emergency in America? Well, even more job losses for the already devastated Gulf region, of course!

Who cares what the stinkin' courts say, right?

Meanwhile, back at the bat cave the U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) dances onto the seen with a new bill that will cap greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. Combine the idiotic mythical man-made global warming carbon restriction bill with the President's Cap and Ban approach to energy policy, and we will have everything the Democrats have ever desired. . .

A decrease in the amount of carbon the U.S. economy emits.

Never mind that the global warming models are in error, and that it is not heightened carbon levels that cause warming, but the natural warming of the planet (when it isn't cooling, or course) that causes an increase in carbon. And carbon, last I checked, is a necessary gas in the environment. We exhale it, and plant life loves to use it to create (shocking shocking shocking - - - wait for it) OXYGEN!

Oh, but don't get your tree hugging grubbers in an uproar just yet! It gets better!

The renewable energy plans they have in store for us are inefficient and definitely not cost effective, and as energy costs and fuel costs go up, so does the prices of everything! You see, not only will your electricity bills rise, but so will the electricity costs of the nation's producers. And not only will your gas prices rise, but so will the prices of fuel for transportation companies that ship your goods. And guess what? Those companies will not absorb the cost, they will pass the additional cost on to you.

How's that for stimulating a hobbling economy seeking recovery?

Renewable energy is not cost-effective, and it is significantly more expensive than traditional fuels, so in order to force companies into heading in that direction they will use mandates (you know, like dictators use?).

According to the Heritage Foundation the following information in regards to a cost analysis tells us that the wonderful Democrat plan for our energy will:

1) raise electricity prices by 36 percent for households and 60 percent for industry;

2) cut national income (GDP) by $5.2 trillion between 2012 and 2035;

3) cut national income by $2,400 per year for a family of four;

4) reduce employment by more than 1,000,000 jobs; and

5) add more than $10,000 to a family of four’s share of the national debt by 2035.

Gosh, them leftists sure love the people, don't they? But don't worry, while your lights are turned off because you can't afford your electric bill anymore, and your car is sitting in the driveway because you can't afford to drive it, you will still get free health care. . . as soon as you work your way through the months-long waiting list.

Oh, and as Obama bans oil drilling in the Gulf, take this into account:

"The first Obama oil drilling ban already caused some oil rigs to leave U.S. waters entirely. The threat of a second moratorium effectively created a de facto oil drilling ban and, even if they lose in court, the Obama Interior Department can further the de facto moratorium 'through tough new safety regulations and by extending the time it takes to review drilling applications.' Studies show that more than 200,000 jobs are tied to the offshore drilling industry and 35,000 workers are directly involved each day when the rigs are in use. The American Petroleum Institute forecasts that if the drilling ban continues, more than 120,000 jobs could be lost in the Gulf Coast and key resources abandoned or moved elsewhere."

And yet they will still lie and tell you the unemployment rate is below 10%.

You see, we don't count people no longer drawing unemployment insurance, small business owners who have gone under, or people out of work but unable to collect unemployment insurance.

They tell us the recovery is sluggish, but in progress!

Yeah, right, and next they'll try to convince you that Rachel Maddow is a good journalist.

The Heritage Foundation also crunched some more numbers for us, to help us understand what will happen if the Obama Idiot House goes forward with a full ban on offshore drilling (these effects are figured for between now and 2035):

1) reduce GDP by $5.5 trillion;

2) reduce job growth by more than 1 million jobs by 2015 and more than 1.5 million jobs by 2030; and

3) increase the total expenditures for imported oil by nearly $737 billion.

Wow, do those Democrats know how to devastate a nation, or what?

The people kind of have a problem with all that Obama proposes, but King Obama will do it anyway, despite what you think. And then he'll hold another concert at the White House, go golfing, and take another vacation (to Maine? Hawaii? Europe?) . . . and he'll so all this as the U.S. Economy continues to navigate the raging river towards the sign that reads "Point of No Return."

Hear that roaring waterfall that will shatter our boat in the distance? Obama thinks its good times.
