Change Your Opinion About Gays, Or Don't Graduate!

By Douglas V. Gibbs

George Orwell's 1984 society strikes again. Be re-educated by the system of higher learning, or be expelled.

Jennifer Keeton is a Christian, and is pursuing a master's degree in school counseling at Augusta State University. As a Christian, her ethical convictions include believing that homosexuality is a sinful behavior. School officials told her that she must undergo a remediation program due to her beliefs on homosexuality and transgendered persons. If she refused to be reeducated, Jennifer would be dismissed from the program. The only way to avoid dismissal would be to alter her "central religious beliefs on human nature and conduct."

In other words, accept homosexuality and transgenderism as normal behavior, and be prepared to counsel the same as a school counselor once she leaves as a graduate.

As a result, Jennifer is suing Augusta State University.

Keeton, according to the lawsuit, was informed by school officials in late May that she would be asked to take part in a remediation plan due to faculty concerns regarding her beliefs pertaining to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues.

"The faculty identifies Miss Keeton's views as indicative of her improper professional disposition to persons of such populations," the lawsuit reads.

Of course, Augusta State University officials have declined to comment.

It is interesting how the Left accuses Christians all of the time of attempting to force people to accept their beliefs, which is false since Christians see salvation as a voluntary personal choice between the individual and God, yet have no problem forcing their leftist "morality" on Christians, and even applaud such attempts.

While accusing folks of the Right of discrimination and bigotry, the university is discriminating on the basis of Jennifer's moral, religious, political and personal views and beliefs - even though they deny doing such a thing.

Keeton's lawsuit alleges that the university's remediation plan noted Keeton's "disagreement in several class discussions and in written assignments with the gay and lesbian 'lifestyle,'" as well as Keeton's belief that those "lifestyles" are cases of identity confusion.

If Keeton fails to complete the plan, including additional reading and the writing of papers describing the impact on her beliefs, she will be expelled from the Counselor Education Program, the lawsuit claims.

Keeton has stated that she believes sexual behavior is the "result of accountable personal choice rather than an inevitability deriving from deterministic forces," according to the suit.

"She also has affirmed binary male-female gender, with one or the other being fixed in each person at their creation, and not a social construct or individual choice subject to alteration by the person so created," the lawsuit reads. "Further, she has expressed her view that homosexuality is a 'lifestyle,' not a 'state of being.'"

Jennifer Keeton should be applauded for standing on her principles, and standing up against the fascist mind-bending that America's liberal institutions of higher learning have resorted to.
