Obama Mosque Comment Backtrack

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Obama's comments about the mosque in New York near Ground Zero may follow the President, and his party, into November. Trying to have it both ways, after saying that the Muslims have a right to build at Ground Zero, Obama back-pedaled and also said that he wasn't necessarily approving of the mosque, either.

Injecting himself into this debate has made the November Election even more interesting, showing the Democrat Party's disconnection from the mainstream. Most of the public disagrees with the mosque in New York. So, if Obama made an unpopular statement because of principles, as some in the press are reporting, then why change his stance to something a little more ambiguous? Either he believes it should happen, or not.

Now, Obama has angered the Right by confirming what many believe in regards to his willingness to appease, and even partner, with Islam; and he has angered the Left because once he realized there was backlash for his statement, he changed direction - acting like a typical, lying, untrustworthy, cesspool drenched politician.

Perhaps we can answer the question on why he has spoken out of both sides of his mouth regarding the mosque in New York by posing a different question. Why hasn't Michelle Obama been at Barack Obama's side in Muslim countries?

Shariah Law is either something Obama adheres to because he is Muslim, or because he is trying the best he can to "be sensitive" to Shariah as a non-Muslim. Nonetheless, he is acting consistent with Islamic principles, because a Muslim man would never take his wife on a politically oriented trip to any nation which practices Sharia law, particularly Saudi Arabia where the Wahhabi sect is dominant.

If Barack Obama is willing to act consistently with Islam by not allowing his wife to join him in Muslim countries, why wouldn't he be willing to lie (another Muslim technique) whenever it is beneficial to the "Islamic struggle?"

In Islam there are certain provisions under which lying is not simply tolerated, but actually encouraged. The book "The spirit of Islam," by the Muslim scholar, Afif A. Tabbarah was written to promote Islam. On page 247, Tabbarah stated: "Lying is not always bad, to be sure; there are times when telling a lie is more profitable and better for the general welfare, and for the settlement of conciliation among people, than telling the truth. To this effect, the Prophet says: 'He is not a false person who (through lies) settles conciliation among people, supports good or says what is good."

Obama, by supporting the mosque originally, was being truthful. When he realized that the truthfulness may not be beneficial to Islam, or to his liberal tyranny, he turned to ambiguity. In his mind, the lie was perfectly acceptable, because doing so is more profitable to liberalism, and Islam.

I am not saying that Obama is definitely a Muslim. He says he isn't, and it is entirely possible that he is being truthful. But, if he isn't a Muslim, he sure has no problem following the tenets of Islam.

Maybe he is just trying to submit.
