Chinese Nobel Peace Prize Winner In The Dark

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Though China has made advances economically by inserting a limited amount of capitalism into their financial system, which has resulted in an economic boom and an emerging middle class, the totalitarian nature of communism still exists in the country. Truth is an enemy, and those who fight for freedom are punished for their subversion.

Liu Xiaobo has been fighting for liberty in China, and has won a Nobel Peace Prize this year for his efforts. Mr. Xiaobo, however, is unaware of his award for he is currently imprisoned for his "subversive activities."

Liu is serving the first of eleven years in prison, and his Nobel Peace Prize win has drawn furious condemnation from the Chinese Government. In an effort to ensure the people do not catch wind of the world's affection for Liu Xiaobo, and his fight for freedom, the Chinese state media has blacked out the all news regarding Liu's award, and Liu's calls for peaceful political change.

Barack Obama has called on China to release imprisoned Nobel Peace laureate Liu Xiaobo as soon as possible, but the call has no doubt fallen on deaf ears.

Centralized government systems such as China's does not recognize the fight for freedom as begin anything other than sedition.
