Thousands Protest Austerity Measures in Britain

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Liberalism, Socialism, or any other collectivist system, is failing all across Europe. Greece has all but collapsed, and was rocked with riots when entitlement programs were cut in order to save the nation's financial system. Spain and Portugal looked like they may soon follow. Now, Great Britain has been forced to begin cutting programs, and protests have erupted in London in response.

The idiots are waving signs saying "Don't Break Britain" and "No more cuts." Some even warn the cuts could plunge the country back into recession. But if the government does not have the money to pay for the programs, how can they be continued?

Labor unions are the primary force behind the protests, but the government says it has no choice but to cut spending by 83 billion pounds by 2014-15. Part of those extensive cuts will be reducing government services and welfare, and quite possibly risking a million government jobs.

There is a lot of concern regarding the welfare of the people dependent upon these programs, but once again, if there is no money, it is suicidal to the economic well-being of the nation to continue to put out that funding.
