Mitch McConnell Changes Position on Supporting Earmark Moratorium

By Douglas V. Gibbs

After speaking out against a moratorium on earmarks because he did not feel it would do much for cutting spending, Mitch McConnell came to realize the effect such a moratorium could have, and the importance of the symbolism associated with such a move. As a result, he has now come out in support of a proposed ban on earmarks.

McConnell announced his intentions in the upcoming Congress during his opening speech at the start of the lame-duck session. In addition to supporting the ban on earmarks, he also announced his support for reducing spending.
