Maxine Waters off the Hook?

By Douglas V. Gibbs

With Christmas coming, and all of the lame duck activities, perhaps the Democrats figured nobody would notice that yet another guilty Democrat would get off without even a warning. For some strange reason, the U.S. House of Representatives Ethics Committee mysteriously and abruptly abandoned its trial of Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA). In fact, this comes at a time when evidence has surfaced indicating that the panel’s chairwoman has been unscrupulously steering the investigation to help her fellow California Democrat, Representative Waters.

Two key investigators have been indefinitely suspended with no explanation, the panel's chairwoman, Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), has obstructed her staffs’ probes on Waters and repeatedly refused to approve requests to subpoena Waters and Rep. Barney Frank, the Massachusetts Democrat who is also embroiled in the Waters corruption scandal.

Waters was originally charged for using her influence to steer $12 million in federal bailout funds to a failing bank, that eventually got shut down by the government, in which she and her board member husband held shares.

Representative Barney Frank, who is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, helped write the legislation that allowed the tax dollars to pour into the now-defunct bank, OneUnited.

The fingerprints of these liberal Democrats always seem to be all over the most criminal activities.

The Democrats are good at taking care of their own, and letting liberal, corrupt lawmakers off the hook.

Consider the slight slap on the hand that Charles Rangel got for breaking nearly a dozen House rules, many of which also violate federal laws.
