Long War In Libya Begins, as Attacks Against Israel are Ignored

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Military operations against Libya's leader, Moammar Gadhafi, is going to be a long war according to the North African dictator, and some European leaders. The war against Gadhafi is currently being waged with air strikes by aircraft, and missile strikes. Hillary Clinton has assured us that American involvement will not include ground troops.

The Arab League, after calling for a no-fly zone over Libyan air space, are appalled by the military operation being launched against Libya.

How did they expect Western forces to enforce the no-fly zone?

The fears of the Arab League, and OPEC, is not only that oil production is being affected, but the Muslim influenced organizations wonder if the willingness of the West to get involved in the region's affairs will trickle to other nations in the area currently facing internal strife.

The military operations of bomber runs and missile attacks have stalled Gadhafi's attacks on rebels, and missile attacks have zeroed in on Gadhafi's residential compound near his iconic tent.

The attack on Libya comes after Gadhafi's government forces had been on a triumphant offensive against rebel forces.

American involvement in this operation is being denounced by members of both the political Right and Left in the United States, and is not consistent with the Founder's desire that the United States not become involved with foreign entanglements unless America is directly affected by the happenings across the ocean.

As the world is distracted by the military confrontation in Libya, and the disaster in Japan following a devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami, Hamas has launched attacks against Israel from their base in Gaza. Israeli intelligence is reporting that the Iranian government is instigating the attacks by providing the rockets and mortars.

Israel has been struck by more than 50 rockets with the result of indiscriminate death and destruction. Israeli officials say that this is the heaviest barrage in two years, coming days after Israel seized a cargo ship carrying rockets and other lethal weapons from Iran and Syria that were headed for delivery to Hamas in Gaza.

Islamists are showing once again that Jihadism is an opportunistic ideology, and that Palestinian forces will continue to attack Israel regardless of what they do. This attack comes five years after Israel withdrew from Gaza, giving local Palestinians their first opportunity to govern themselves.

The American media has ignored what is happening in Israel, and veteran journalist Helen Thomas has gone so far as to accuse the White House, due to the attack against Libya, to be "controlled by the Jews."
