South Gate High School Stabbing

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The male student pulled out a knife during lunchtime, and stabbed his girlfriend for all to see. A couple others tried to intervene, and the injuries began to pile up. The school went into lockdown, and during the night the girl that was stabbed died in the hospital.

Threats against the family at the hospital caused a brief lockdown, while law enforcement followed up on a bomb threat. No bomb was located.

There is a weapons check at the school, but it is a random search. With 3,000 students, checking every single person, due to time restraints, is just not an option. As a result, weapons sometimes sneak in. The knife was carried on campus in the suspect's backpack.

Four other people, including the alleged assailant, were also hospitalized after the stabbing.
