Earthquakes Strike San Francisco, Delhi, and Argentina

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Today was an active day for earthquakes. California shakes many times a day, but today a 4.3 magnitude earthquake centered about 15 miles northeast of San Francisco rattled the bay area.  The earthquake was at the depth of 5.5 miles. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

An earthquake of medium intensity jolted Delhi, India measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale.  Later, the US Geological Survey updated the magnitude, indicating that the strength of the earthquake was measured 5.2 on the Richter scale.

A major earthquake of 6.1 magnitude struck Argentina 69 miles east southeast of Santiago del Estero at a depth of 340 miles. A quake of that magnitude nearer the earth's surface could cause severe damage in a densely populated area.
