The outcome that conservatives feared, and hoped would not come to pass, may be upon us. The signs are more and more pointing towards a Romney GOP nomination for President of the United States. Mitt Romney, this election season's establishment candidate, moderate, and all around non-conservative, has about wrapped it up with Tuesday's wins in Wisconsin, Maryland and Washington DC.
Seeing the writing on the wall, Romney has begun taking jabs at Obama, and leaving his republican rivals alone. He is preparing for the bigger battle as Santorum begins to receive word that many folks just want him to step down.
As for Romney's vice presidential running mate, I have indicated how I think Allen West would be perfect, but another name that has been rattled around a little has been Rand Paul. Could we see that choice? Would Rand Paul pull in enough conservative votes for Romney to pull off a win against Obama?
One thing is for sure, with me - if Marco Rubio is the choice, I may not vote for president - not because I wish to give it to Obama, but because of my principles regarding natural born citizenship, and the fact that Rubio is not eligible (his parents were not citizens of the United States at the time of his birth).
Personally, from a number of votes point of view, Santorum may very well be Romney's best choice, barring any miracles before the convention that may change the final tally.

1) It doesn't matter how TPish a running mate Governor Romney selects because "conservatives" will just dismiss him or her as an "establishment sellout" anyway.
2) Santorum has burned so many bridges by now that he might not even get his "turn" in 2016 or 2020, much less on Romney's ticket.
3) What good are your principles if Constitutional government (or, rather, what's left of it) is completely overthrown, as it would be in a second Obama term? Could it not fairly be said that by refusing to support a Romney-Rubio ticket against Barack Obama, you would be selling out your principles?
I think it'll be Romney and Paul Ryan, personally; could you bring yourself to support that ticket?
