2012: The Election Over Capitalism

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The Soviet Union leaders called us capitalist pigs. I never thought the Democrats would start calling us that too.

This election has come down to whether you support capitalism, or socialism. For the first time in my lifetime, capitalism is the enemy as far as the President of the United States is concerned, and to win his reelection, he is launching attack after attack against capitalism, and the capitalists that dare to make a profit.

This nation's prosperity is the direct result of our free enterprise and capitalist system. The concept of capitalism was present from the very beginning, though it was not called such. Capitalism built America, from the individual successes of the early colonists, to the individual successes of today's business owners.

The Democrats have decided now that defending capitalism makes you an extremist, and they are intent to ridicule anyone that defends capitalism into silence, including Mitt Romney.

The primary focus of the Democrats has been against Romney's involvement with Bain Capital, a private equity company that has been directly involved with saving companies by removing the parts of the enterprise that was causing failure, and then breathing new life into the company. Romney's involvement in Bain Capital is a large part of the reason he is a successful businessman, and wealthy to boot. Through venture capitalism Romney saved dying businesses, which led to the growth of the businesses, an increase in jobs, and a stronger business sector.

Obama, through bailouts, saved failing businesses, kept the failing parts of them intact, and now they are all going bankrupt (which means he didn't save them at all).

Newark (N.J.) Mayor Cory Booker during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, a democrat, mind you, even sees the writing on the wall, saying that his fellow democrats have veered badly off message, and then he defended Bain Capital. His description of Obama's negative tone towards capitalism? "Nauseating".

The AP later called Booker's words a "gaffe."

Why? Because democrats aren't supposed to dare to veer off Obama's course?

We are a capitalistic country, with a capitalist running for President, and the democrats are attacking Romney for daring to be a capitalist.  If the founders wanted us to be like Europe, they would have made us that way. We are exceptional for a reason, and capitalism is a large part of it.
