Flight from South Korea Crash Lands at San Francisco Airport

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Witnesses say the plane was obviously too low upon approached, and acted as if it was going to try to rise up, but as the nose arose, the tail dipped, and caught the edge of the runway at a seawall, forcing the plane into a crash landing that spread debris all over the runway.

Two died, 182 were injured.  The injuries were dominated by abdominal injuries, some spinal fractures (a few causing paralysis), and head injuries.  A few patients also suffered from road rash.  Officials say that it was a miracle that 123 people simply walked away from the wreckage, especially when one considers the structural damage inside the plane, including seats that were buckled.
