Most Millionaires In Congress Ever?

by JASmius

What does it tell us about the state of our system that more than half of congress is millionaires, and [some of them] didn't start out that way?

Actually, it tells us a number of things.

1) Inflation guarantees there'll be an escalating number of congressional millionaires.  So that item doesn't much impress me.

2) I already knew there are more and richer Democrats than there are Republicans.  Which is a function of....

3) The government is too bleeping big, and as long as it's too bleeping big, the opportunities for corruption and political profiteering will remain grievously rife and abundant.  Which will also keep Democrats much richer than Republicans.

But....

4) The reason to shrink the government back within constitutional boundaries isn't to keep "politicians" from "getting rich".  Focus and obsess on that and you miss the point.  It's like freaking out over a mole that's starting to "look funny" while, in the mean time, your innards are full of metastasizing stage-4 cancer.  It's zeroing in on the least significant of symptoms and completely missing the disease.  It's class warfare directed at "politicians".  It's envymongering, because, admit it, if you had the chance to serve in Congress and lucrative opportunities came your way, wouldn't you be tempted to help yourself?  Even a little?  Sure you would.

The True Messiah once said, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak".  Our goal should not be to make weak flesh strong, since it doesn't have that capability; it must be to take away the source of its temptation.  The Framers understood that.  Why don't we?
