The Gift Of Gabby?

by JASmius

Gabby Saucedo Mercer is stepping up to run against a liberal villain, Representative Raúl Grijalva, in Arizona-3. Bill makes the case.

Well, by all means, more power to Mrs. Mercer, but let's not get so caught up in her "heroism" that we start deluding ourselves into believing that she's got a snowball's chance in the Sonoran Desert against Congressman Grijalva (who crushed her by twenty-one points in 2012).  Y'see, it's a funny thing, but most "heroes" are unelectable, especially in gerrymandered Democrat districts.  God knows they shouldn't be, but they are.  It gets back to one of my pet peeves: Just because you hear somebody give a speech every last word of with which you passionately agree doesn't necessarily mean that somebody should run for political office.  The idea is to defeat Democrats, not run your purist hobby horses.  If, in each given race, that can be done with "heroes," great, go for it.  But if winning means going with a more moderate candidate, buy it.  Remember the Buckley Rule: "Always support the rightwardmost electable candidate".  Because we, and the country, are better off with somebody who's on the side of truth, justice, and the American way 60% or 70% of the time than a Donk animal who's rabidly opposed to everything we stand for.

Right, Bill?  Bill?  Buehler?  Buehler?
