Turkey's Adolph Erdogan Goes Godwinn

by JASmius

Might this be why the NSA still spies on the Turkish strongman?:

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who is pushing for executive powers, cites Hitler's Germany as an example of an effective presidential system, in comments broadcast by Turkish media on Friday.

Well, strictly speaking, he's not wrong, folks.  Although that does depend on just exactly what it is he's intending to do with these powers.  For instance, I'm certain that those remarks have grabbed Benjamin Netanyahu's undivided attention like holding two tiny, spherical green objects in one's fist seizes that of Kermit The Frog.

Erdogan wants to change the Turkish constitution to turn the ceremonial role of president into that of a chief executive, a Turkish version of the system in the United States, France or Russia.

Wow, none of those are constructive examples, are they?  Not even ours, given the past seven years.  To which there's no doubt in my mind that Liderler Erdogan was making implicit reference.

Asked on his return from a visit to Saudi Arabia late on Thursday whether an executive presidential system was possible while maintaining the unitary structure of the state, he said: "There are already examples in the world. You can see it when you look at Hitler's Germany.

Since Ergodan brought him up, here are some randomly assorted Hitler quotes:

He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.

Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.

Barack Obama lives by that one, although it's become threadbare of late.

Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

In political terms that one would fit right in the Tea Party lexicon.

The victor will never be asked if he told the truth.

i.e. "I won".

I do not see why man should not be just as cruel as nature.

Which brings us back to Erdogan and his dream of restoring a Turkish-led caliphate.

By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise.

Yes!  One!  Can!

Demoralize the enemy from within by surprise, terror, sabotage, assassination. This is the war of the future.

Sound familiar?

If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.

Another Obama lodestone.

It is not truth that matters, but victory.

And another!

All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach.

The Obama trifecta.

See why Erdogan cited the United States as one of his examples of effective dictatorships, right alongside Putin's Russia and Hitler's Germany?

As the Turkish president will doubtless say after he attains the new constitution he seeks and as the cheering crowds surge past him for five hours beneath the balcony of the presidential palace in Ankara, "Biz güce sahip . Şimdi dev eser başlıyor" - "We have the power. Now our gigantic work begins."

UPDATE (1/2): "Oh, uh, when I said that I was looking for an effective executive model like Hitler's Germany, I didn't mean THAT Hitler and I didn't mean Germany, I meant, ummmmm, Shaka Hitler, that's right, Shaka Hitler from....uhhhh - Mozambique, yeah, Mozambique.  So stop being so Islamophobic, or I'll gas you and incinerate your remains."
