Liberal Left Intentions

By Douglas V. Gibbs,

For the liberal left Democrats, the fact that history shows that their policies are destined to fail means nothing to them.  It doesn't matter to them that their policies have destroyed Detroit, Chicago, or California.  Never mind that leftism has left the people in Venezuela rioting, and short food, and toilet paper.  It doesn't matter, because to them, all that matters is that their actions are rooted in good intentions.  Never mind human nature, or the potential of tyranny.  Never mind that the system will collapse, or that their policies are unsustainable.  Their intentions are "Fair" and "Utopian."  It's all about the ideology, and the blind faith that it will work out fine, despite the evidence saying otherwise. . . because they have good intentions.

Any opposition receives name calling and attacks.  The left always seeks to silence their opposition.  The truth, and facts, don't matter.

The facts mean nothing to them.  It is all about good intentions.

It's like folks who give to charities. It is good to give to charities, but if folks have to go around telling everybody they do so, and then list the charities they give to, one wonders about the real reasons these folks give to charities in the first place. Same thing with hybrid cars.  I am figuring in a number of cases, folks didn't really buy the car, deep down, because of some virtuous attempt to save the world, but so that they could go around showing off to people that they are so-called "environmentally conscious."

Or, as Penn Jillette said in a video where they had environmentalists signing a petition banning water, "Is passion supposed to replace common sense?  We understand the desire to join up and do something important.  It's sexy to save the world, but you gotta spend a couple of minutes to find out if you're really saving the world, and not just being herded around by some politically motivated assholes who may not really care that much about the environment, but see this as a chance to raise money for whatever they think is a good idea.  No end justifies the means of lying."

But, but, but, they have the best of intentions!

What is that old saying?

Oh, yeah. . . The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
