Trump in Phoenix: I Think We're Going To Win

By Douglas V. Gibbs

While there is a significant anti-Trump movement led by Democrats and Establishment Republicans, the Trump campaign said in Phoenix that they are pretty confident about the road to the White House.  To thousands of people at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum Donald Trump said, "We're going to be very, very smart. We're going to be tough. We're going to be very vigilant, and we're going to solve our problems."

Regarding the Muslim terrorist shooting in Orlando, "What happened was an assault on our country; it was an assault on the gay community."

Trump also accurately added that the shooting was not about guns; it was about terrorism.

Among the things that propelled Trump to the top of the ticket has been his tough language regarding Islamic terrorism, and illegal immigration.  Regarding illegal aliens, he said to the crowd in Phoenix, "We want people to come into our country...legally, legally."

Accused of being a sexist hasn't stopped Trump from trying to appeal to women voters.  He called out to them, saying, "We want women for Trump!"

While he promises to bring jobs back, cut taxes and repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, we must remember that the best way for government to bring jobs back is to get out of the way, and quit making the environment hostile to the free market system.  Cutting taxes is always a good move.  As for the promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, let's just go with repeal.  We don't want the federal government to replace a program it has no constitutional authority to be involved in in the first place.

On the education front, Trump pledged to knock out Common Core - a very important position, and one that parents who have been faced with the Common Core monstrosity largely supports.

Both Jan Brewer and Sheriff Joe Arpaio spoke, and gave Trump ringing endorsements.

Arizona State Treasurer Jeff DeWit also welcomed Trump, stating, "Mr. Trump is one of the smartest and quickest minds of our time."

Trump is showing that he is a quick study, and he is surrounding himself with very capable people.
