Facebook's Anti-Hate Speech Efforts

By Douglas V. Gibbs

I don't watch mainstream media news very often, but while in East Texas, having breakfast downstairs at the Holiday Inn somewhere between Houston and Beaumont, I watched Headline News since that is what the facility had showing.  As I ate my meal shortly before eight in the morning (which is two hours earlier in my brain since I live in Southern California) the broadcast gave an interesting report.  The headline read "Is Facebook Stopping Hate Speech," basically reporting that Facebook's efforts to censor speech on its website that is opposed to the hard left narrative may not be as successful as some people believe.

Did you catch that?  They were actually reporting that the censorship of opposing ideas is not going far enough.

"Hate Speech" is just another way of saying, "Things we are offended by because it disagrees with the leftist ideology".

The First Amendment's bar against Congress making any laws regarding the freedom of speech was created to target protecting political and religious speech, the types of speech big corporations are now colluding with the federal and State governments to silence.  What is amazing is that they not only don't see the tyranny in silencing any speech that disagrees with their political and religious points of view, but they actually think it is a good thing and that their clamping down against anyone who disagrees with them is actually a positive action in order to "protect our democracy" (and that we actually need more of such censorship).

Never mind that we are supposed to be a republic, not a democracy.  But, that's a discussion for another day.

I wonder if the people under Hitler realized that their censorship of the opposition was a sign of the rise of a tyranny?
