Has our society gotten that out of whack?

The answer to the question above is "Yes."

In Bellmead, Texas a four-year old was put into in-school suspension for hugging his teacher's aide, or at least that is what the father of this child states.

However, the school states that the four-year old rubbed his face in the chest of a female employee. The principal of La Vega Primary School sent a letter to the parents of this child that stated (now get this) the pre-kindergartener demonstrated "inappropirate physical behavior interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment."

The father immediately wrote the administrators indicating that the aide simply misread a hug from the four-year old. He is demanding that the whole incident be removed from the child's academic file. He stated that his son is too young to know what it means to act sexually.

The response from the school was to remove the sexual references on the discipline referral, but they denied his request for an apology by the aide, or the removal of the paperwork regarding the incident. The file remains, with the sexual references changed to "inappropriate physical contact."

Are you kidding me? Assuming that the child hasn't been abused sexually or been inappropriately exposed to pornographic material, a child at that age is sexually innocent. Fifty years ago the aide would have patted the boy on the top of the head, told him to rejoin his classmates, and that would be that. Now, the kid is branded as exhibiting inapproprate sexual behavior.

The kid is four-years old! Give me a break! Please tell me that I'm not being unreasonable here. Did I miss something?

Many "inappropriate" words popped into my head when I read this....all directed at the stupidity of the school!

  3. I certainly hope the Father litigates. I am no fan of lawsuits, but this case would be an exception. And the "aide" as it were, should have a psychological evaluation to determine just how she concluded that a 4 year old had sexually contacted her.

She is obviously off her rocker and should not be around children. And shame on the school for not having the spine to end the farce instead of fostering it.

I think America is becoming Bizarro World...

  4. I've had a similar incident happen to me with a small child and it was simply a case of the child perceiving me as a maternal figure. It's NATURAL!

    Sick society we live in!

  8. Interesting. I think it is so driven into teachers and aides not to touch students for fear of a lawsuit that they are sometimes scared of those spontaneous displays of affection by young children. I was trained for high school and ended up in pre-K. The first week was a terror...wondering how exactly to follow all those regulations when the children all want to crawl in your lap at story time, give unexpected hugs at any moment and call you mommy half the time.

And then I wondered what exactly it is doing to these very young children to put them in an environment when normal displays of affection are not tolerated and even viewed as "perverse." That has to mess them up somewhere along the line.

I had a similar incident happen with my son when he as three. He had a day care teacher who was young, hot, and very endowed. She came over to babysit one night in a shirt that wasn't slutty, but revealed some cleavage that was never seen in her daily dress. My son met her at the door, got his obligatory hug, patted her ample breasts and said "Miss N____, I love that shirt." We laughed.

I guess we should have called the police and had him placed into therapy as a possible sex offender. Gotta watch those 3 year olds with hypoeractive libidos.
