A large number of Western diplomats walked out of a U.N. conference when Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, called Israel the "most cruel and repressive racist regime."
Jewish groups saw this possibility coming, and lobbied for a boycott of this conference, warning that it may become anti-Semitic, which happened at the last conference eight years ago in South Africa.
During his speech, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Israel of being the "most cruel and repressive racist regime" while blaming the United States invasion of Iraq on a Zionist conspiracy.
When he first mentioned of Israel, about 40 diplomats from Britain and France and other European Union countries exited the room.
Ahmadinejad has been praised by the Muslim world for his attacks on Israel in the past, and will no doubt be praised for these remarks as well.
