Miss California, Carrie Prejean, May Lose Her Crown
Carrie Prejean worked her way up through the pageant system, eventually becoming Miss California USA, and a contestant in the Miss USA 2009 pageant. As the pageant proceeded, she quickly became the favorite, with only a few steps remaining to secure her win. Enter, stage left, Perez Hilton, the highly read entertainment blogger that makes no secrets about his homosexual lifestyle, or liberal leanings on the social end of politics. As a judge in the pageant, he was tasked with asking Carrie Prejean a question, and he chose the volatile topic of Gay Marriage. Perez Hilton asked, "Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?" Carrie Prejean, in short, responded that she believed marriage is between a man and a woman.
The backlash to her response by popular culture was tremendous, to the point that Carrie Prejean believed her failure to secure the crown was a result of Perez Hilton's disagreement with her answer. Perez Hilton, the disgusting individual that he is, later slammed Prejean, calling her profane names on his video blog.
More profane than Perez Hilton's response to Carrie's answer to his question has been the leftward media's decision to discredit Prejean for daring to voice an independent opinion that did not concur with theirs.
In the aftermath of Carrie Prejean's willingness to be honest with her soul and proclaim her real opinion about marriage being between a man and a woman (and I am sure she realized the response from the bobble heads of pop culture may not be to her benefit), the Left has drudged up news that her breast enhancement was pageant paid, and that when she was younger she had photographs taken of her that were more revealing than the pageant rules allow. As a result of this leftist dig into her life, it has now been announced it will likely cost her the Miss California crown.
If Carrie Prejean has violated multiple items in her contract with the pageant, and it looks like she may have, the pageant hierarchy has every right to strip her of her crown. You will receive no argument from me there. The problem I see with this, however, is the double-standard being portrayed. Had Carrie Prejean responded in the Miss USA Pageant that she believed marriage was something that same-sex couples should have free and unlimited use of, I am willing to guess that she would have won the Miss USA Pageant, the boob job questions would have been brushed under the rug, and she would have been hailed as courageous for being willing to pose for the racy photos when she was younger (if the existence of the photos would have been noticed at all), especially since they flew in the face of the Christian Faith she claims to be a part of.
Give the wrong answer, and suddenly your life is scrutinized, you are demonized, and the repercussions can be devastating. Just ask Sarah Palin, or Joe the Plumber.
Now, because of her willingness to answer the question regarding gay marriage as she did, she is public enemy number one. I agree with the Left that perhaps a Christian woman should not have posed for the photos she did, but then again, as a model, they are of no surprise. Do the partially nude photographs take away from her answer to Perez Hilton's question about homosexual marriage in the pageant? Absolutely not. Were the pictures she had taken a misstep in her Christian walk? Perhaps. I don't know, I wasn't in her shoes when she agreed to have them taken. Would all this be going on if she had agreed with Perez Hilton's opinion on the gay agenda issue? Of course not.
The most interesting thing to come out of all of this is the fact that this controversy has thrust Carrie Prejean into stardom. After all, can you tell me who won the Miss USA Pageant? Can you even tell me from what state the winner is from?
