Debbie Lee: America Chooses Michael Jackson Over The Troops
In the aftermath of the eight hour Troopathon at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, it turns out that the final funds raised for Care Packages for the troops was only about 50% of last year's efforts. This unfortunate result came after Move America Forward had secured a better location, had a much better set, and a heck of a lot more celebrities of high caliber to appear on the webcast. Unfortunately, instead of covering the event, the media was head-long into their ongoing coverage of the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
It is a pretty serious indictment to say that America chose Michael Jackson over our troops, but one wonders if it had not been for the death of Michael Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett, which dominated the "breaking news" section of the media, whether or not the amount of money contributed to support the troops would have been higher.
How is it that a strange individual, who no doubt had a lot of talent as a performer, could garner more attention in his death than those alive and fighting, and are willing to die for our freedoms on the battlefield?
I am indeed saddened that an individual, namely Michael Jackson, died. Any death is a sad event. But I don't believe his death deserves a week-long marathon of coverage by the media, and I don't think he deserves more appreciation than our troops who have pledged to protect this nation, and are willing to die for liberty, and remember, they made this pledge voluntarily, out of love for liberty, and this nation.
Debbie Lee is our guest tonight on Political Pistachio Radio to talk about the Troopathon, and her feelings about America's obsession with a dead entertainer that was an accused pedophile, and drug user, and a person that lived in a Neverland of unending insanity.
