Statue of Liberty Crown Reopens

July Fourth was the perfect day to reopen Lady Liberty's crown to visitors.

Limited tickets were available, but plenty of visitors had the chance to visit the crown.

The statue was closed to the public after the attack against America on September 11, 2001. The base, pedestal, and outdoor observation deck reopened in 2004.

When I visited Liberty island in 2002, I couldn't even get close enough to the base to touch it.

The crown has 25 windows, and the view of New York City is breath-taking. The tickets are pretty much sold out through the end of August.

The torch has been closed since it was damaged by a saboteur's bomb in 1916.
