Fireman Locker Flag Sticker

By Douglas V. Gibbs

You can file this under "You've Got To Be Kidding Me!"

A firefighter has been suspended over an American flag sticker on his locker. The 11-year veteran was told that there could be no decarations on the outside of his locker - and the American Flag does not deserve an exception (according to his superiors).

The rule comes after a black firefighter placed an "offensive" cartoon on his locker.

Johnson, the firefighter that posted the flag on his locker, and is also black, removed the cartoon after another firefighter complained. Butler, the firefighter that had put the cartoon on his locker in the first place, posted a sign that read, "Black man has no free speech," and then was suspended for a day when he refused to remove the sign.

So, should the American Flag be placed in the same catagory as offensive, racial material? Because that seems to be what this fire department is doing.
