A person that has never served in the military does not understand the honor, training, or brotherhood associated with military service. This is in no way a knock to those that have not served. Military service is not for everyone. I understand that. Few truly can live up to the tradition and image of the United States Military. An even fewer number of individuals can continue on after being knocked down, be it by a drill instructor, operational challenges, or the battlefield. When an individual faces the extreme conditions of a combat zone or shipboard battle scenario, grabbing a rifle, crawling to the front if the legs aren't working, feeling his way into the battle if his sight has been taken, or when one is willing to fight to a glorious death if that is what it takes to defeat the enemy - Well, we call those individuals heroes.
The hero, however, rejects the label. He simply says, "I was only doing my job."
Fear is present, but does not come to the surface in the battle. Adrenalin carries the warrior, and it isn't until afterward (often) that he stops and says to himself, "Holy Sh**!"
A number of things are important to the warrior, and among the most important is the training they have received, and the equipment available. The training enables the warrior to depersonalize the combat and go about doing his job of destroying the enemy. If concern over the quality of the equipment, the amount of equipment, or the amount of ammunition available, comes into play, phsychological factors might interfere with the troop's ability to fight to the best of this ability because the warriors realize they are not at one hundred percent.
There are no complaints, however. The warrior does what he can with what he has. If they have to shield a wounded buddy with a body that has no armor, the warrior will still do so. It is not uncommon for a warrior to leave a position of safety to protect another man who can't move - but it would be more beneficial to the warrior if he had the proper equipment available.
In the military, we are all brothers and sisters, and we are there for each other, no matter what.
When I served I considered myself a lifer, and a believer in the fight, regardless of the nature of the fight, that would be engaged by my assigned command. I trained, and did my job to the utmost of my abilities. When I hurt I remained silent, when I was tired I pushed myself harder, and when I was afraid I ignored the fear. However, my career was cut short. If I could, I would be back in with my brothers and sisters in an instant.
President Obama does not understand the nature of the military, nor the importance of rapid decision making. Delay, or hesitation, can result in death on the battlefield. In the case of Obama, his hesitation to respond to General McChrystal's recommendations could cause the death of a number of our servicemembers.
I believe the delay is because Obama doesn't care about the military, nor the safety of our troops. His agenda, led by his signature "health care" proposals, is more important to him than the safety of our troops. Obama thinks this way not only because socialists tend to place the socialist agenda above anything else, but because Obama does not understand the integrity, accountability, courage, honor, and commitment that goes along with being a member of the U.S. Military.
If he, and the Democrats, did care about our troops - and if they did consider our military to be a high priorty - then they would not have diverted $2.6 billion that was supposed to go to ammunition, fuel and training to their B.S. pet projects in the form of earmarks on this year's defense budget.
What's the answer to the question?
The answer to the question, whatever it may be, is "whatever benefits the liberal politicians most" - and they don't care how many of our young men and women die because those cockroaches decided to pull funds from the defense budget for things like an educational institute named after Senator Edward (Teddy) M. Kennedy.
Sounds to me like their pet projects are more important than the lives of our fine young men and women overseas.
That makes Obama worse than a coward who is not willing to fight the fight, because he is also willing to sacrifice lives due to his indecisiveness, arrogance, selfishness, and his damaging socialist policies.
