Islamic Jihad Strikes Fort Hood

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Major Nidal Malik Hasan's attack at Fort Hood, Texas killing 13 people, and wounding another 30, was an act of terrorism. The media may be tippy-toeing around the truth, but the facts are that Hasan is a Muslim who on his web-site provided pro-jihadist propaganda, and screamed Allah Akbar as he fired upon the innocent.

Immediately, the U.S. Government said that they had discounted the possibility of it being terrorism.

Then what was it? A misunderstood victim that popped a cork?

The way government and the media are treating this horrendous tragedy is what makes me the maddest. It is a double-standard.

If a non-Muslim had fired into a room of Muslims, this would be a hate-crime. But a Muslim firing into a room of non-Muslims isn't. If a person claiming to be a Christian, screaming "Jesus is Great" as he opened fire as Hasan did, committed this kind of atrocity, the media would be all over it, launching investigations of the danger of radical right-wing Christianity in America. A Muslim does something like this, and suddenly everyone is careful about about what they say.

Why? What are you afraid of? It's not like you are drawing a cartoon of Muhammed, or anything.

The double-standard is deafening.

A terrorist attack happened on Obama's watch, and many more will follow. We had no terrorist attacks after 9-11 because Bush took it to the enemy. Appeaser Obama, however, is inviting such attacks with his weakness. And once the jihadists see Obama's lackadaisical response to this attack, they will push the boundaries, test the waters, and we will be hit again.

If we are not willing to admit who our enemy is, how are we supposed to fight them?
