North Korea Threatens South

By Douglas V. Gibbs

As trouble erupts in Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and other Muslim nations, the other trouble spot, North Korea, has refused to remain silent. In the latest news across the Pacific Ocean, North Korea threatened South Korea with punishment for a skirmish between warships.

The event that led to the dispute occurred Tuesday when, after seven years of no clashes, the Koreas accused each other of violating border lines. The skirmish resulted in heavy damage to a North Korean ship, while the South Korean ships received little or no damage.

One North Korean officer is said to have been killed. No deaths were reported by the South.

North Korea has stated that the South will receive consequences for their actions, heating up an already fragile situation in that region.
