China, Socialism, and Policing Thought

All of the articles that appear here on Political Pistachio also appears on my page on Facebook. The following is a comment I believe explains the dangerous waters we are now navigating. The commenter is a friend I met at a writer's conference a few years ago, and I appreciate his comments, and point of view.

Steve Gallup commented on your note "Howard Dean: Debate Between Capitalism and Socialism is Over":

"My wife grew up in Mao's China. One of her grandfathers went to prison because he'd been "wealthy" before the revolution. When the other grandfather protested that that wasn't right, he went to prison as well. Both men were utterly ruined by the experience. I think it's safe to say that no one who lived through those years in China has any illusions about socialism -- or would be surprised by George Will's recent observation that liberals "are all for diversity in everything but thought.""
