Iran Commits Act of War Against Iraq by Seizing Oil Well Across Border

By Douglas V. Gibbs

He said, "come to the negotiation table without any pre-conditions." He said, "diplomacy will work with Iran."

Obama, you were wrong.

Iranian President Ahmadinejad only understands one language - military force. He is a dictator (or I suppose a dictator's puppet - with the true dictatorial power of the Mullahs holding his strings) and once they no longer fear American retaliation for their actions, will do as they please.

In this case, what they pleased was to cross the Iraqi border and seize an oil well.

Isn't that an act of war?

According to reports, the Iranians seized oil well No. 4 in the al-Fakkah oil field, which is located in the Maysan province about 200 miles southeast of Baghdad. The oil field is one of Iraq's largest, and would be a true trophy for Iran should they decide to keep it.

According to Iraqi officials, "This is not the first time that the Iranians have tried to prevent Iraqis from investing in oil fields in border areas."

Iraq's national security council is in an emergency meeting Friday to determine how to handle the issue. They have begun with diplomatic talks, but if Iran continues to throw their weight around, this could be the beginning of a very tense situation in the Middle East.
