The Navy Midshipmen from the Annapolis Naval Academy has done it again, in football. The greatest rivalry in College Football (and perhaps in all of sports) is becoming a sure-win for Navy each year. This year the Navy beat Army 17-3, knocking Army out of bowl contention, and securing for Navy an eighth straight victory.
Yesterday's game was the 110th meeting between the two military academies, and the Navy hammered Army with a rushing quarterback, Ricky Dobbs, who set the NCAA single-season record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, passing Tim Tebow's previous mark of 23 set in 2007.
The win allowed Navy to improve to 54-49-7 overall against Army and take its biggest lead in a series that began in 1890.
The Commander-In-Chief's Trophy was also awarded to Navy, which is given to the team with the best record in games between the three service academies. For Navy, the receipt of the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy has now happened for a school-record seventh straight year.
Navy has been invited to play Missouri in the Texas Bowl on December 31st.
With the school's wins over both Army and Air Force, Navy has won a service academy-record 15 consecutive games against the combination of the two other service academies. Its last loss to a service academy was against the Air Force Falcons in 2002.
On the field these teams may be rivals, but we have to remember that after the game is over, they are all on the same team, and are a part of the greatest team of all, the United States Armed Forces - a team that protects our freedom, and leads the world as the greatest fighting force this world has ever seen.
