A Few Political Thoughts

By Douglas V. Gibbs

If the health care bill is so wonderful, then why is it that the Democrats are paying off folks like Landrieu of Louisiana, and Ben Nelson of Nebraska? Is it because Obamacare can't pass on its own merits, even with a super majority?

Vic Snyder, Congressman of Arkansas, became yet another Democrat in a long line that has decided to not run in the next election. Is it because it is time to retire, or they don't want to lose an election and so they are quittin' while the quittin' is good?

In Massachusetts candidate Scott Brown has now taken the lead in the polls over Martha Coakley. Considering Massachusetts Democrats outnumber Republicans in that state 3 to 1, what is the race saying about the Democrat's chances in November nationwide? With Obama's popularity dying, and the Democrat's health care legislation being very unpopular with the people, isn't Obama's plan to make an appearance for Coakley's campaign a campaign killer?

Moderates and Liberals keep saying that conservatism is dead, and if the Republican Party wishes to ever win again they will abandon their conservative base. But Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell won the governorships in New Jersey and Virginia respectively running on conservatism, and Scott Brown is running a very successful campaign in Massachusetts on a conservative platform - and this is happening in "blue" states!

Martha Coakley, Scott Brown's leftist opponent in Massachusetts, when asked about the Conscience Clause on a radio show (Conscience Clause: in a situation where a rape victim wants emergency contraception, also known as the abortion pill, the Conscience Clause would exempt folks from being required to give the contraception if it is in conflict with their religious beliefs), Martha Coakley said that the person should still be required to give the contraception because of "separation of church and state." The interviewer replied: "In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom." Coakley's response? "The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room," Coakley responded.

Obama wants to tax banks for profiting after receiving a bail out they didn't want, have mostly paid back, and was designed to make them more profitable. Did you get that? The bail out was to save the banks to make them more profitable, and now Obama wants to punish their profits with a new tax. Insane.

Barack Obama in speeches keeps referencing "financial crimes." In other words, he wishes to criminalize capitalism. Communist countries did that, and look where it got them.

Biden, under the criticism of Obama not being transparent, held a transparency meeting. The press was not invited. So Biden is failing to be transparent about the president's lack of transparency?

A 40% tax is being suggested to be levied against high-end health insurance plans. The labor unions took issue with this, so Obama struck a deal with the unions, allowing them to be exempt from paying the 40% tax, or at least until 2018. What this does, along with continuing to encourage class envy, is create two classes of citizens. It treats citizens differently depending on if they contribute, or support, the Democrat Party.
