Republican Party: Conservatism vs. Party Hacks

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The political parties are in the midst of internal civil wars. The Democrats are suffering from mass realization that the radicals in control at this moment truly are a bunch of Marxists, and the less-than-communist Democrats are jumping ship in droves. The internal battle in the Republican Party is a little different. The conflict is between conservatives that hold on tightly to the U.S. Constitution and the teachings of Ronald Reagan, and the party-hacks that place appeasement and politics ahead of principles.

Party-Hacks like Newt Gingrich, who normally has a lot of good things to say when it comes to the issues, reminded us of who he is in relation to the party when he endorsed liberal "Republican In Name Only" (RINO) Dede Scozzafava during the election in New York's District 23. The Conservative Party's Doug Hoffman did not get Newt's consideration because Gingrich was thinking about party, not principles.

Sarah Palin threw her support behind Hoffman.

George W. Bush proclaimed himself to be a conservative, and he was sort of a conservative in very few ways. Overall, however, Bush was hardly a conservative. He is a neo-con, some would say, which is someone who desires conservatism, but wants to use big government to achieve much of it.

The Left, with their talent of demonization, took Bush's statement of Compassionate Conservatism and ran with it, making Bush, Cheney, the Republican Party, Conservatism, and a load of false accusations and unreasonable associations synonymous with each other. By the end of W's second term, leftism had turned "Republican" and "Conservative" into bad words, and therefore anyone using either of those labels to describe themselves were in league with the evil Bush, and the even more evil Republican Party.

The arrogance of the Left was so crazy that they were even beginning to declare that the Republican Party was dead, conservatism was a thing of the past, and the nation was now a center-left nation.

In reality, the perfect storm was a lot of young voters that did not remember the last time Democrats nearly destroyed this nation, and the conservatives of the nation pissed off at the Republican Party and staying at home on election day as a result.

As radical leftism has revealed itself for what it is, conservatism is in its ascendancy. Problem is, the party hacks in the GOP don't like it. The Republican Party refuses to place principles above party, so We The People are doing it instead with Tea Parties, Town Hall uprisings, and Constitutional candidates.

Conservatism is all about limited government. The U.S. Constitution enumerates the powers of the federal government in Article I, Section 8.

When I tell liberals that the federal government cannot do what the Democrats are proposing because of the U.S. Constitution, the response is usually: "It doesn't say they can't, either."

The U.S. Constitution was written specifically to limit the powers of the federal government. Constitutional law does not rewrite the Constitution, and shouldn't. Just because some liberal judge declares that the Constitution says something different, it doesn't make it so.

Conservatism understands that the best way to understand the original intentions of the founding fathers is to read their writings. . . all of their writings. Picking and choosing passages without context, as some Liberals will do, is not what I mean, either. Read it all, understand it all, and realize the founding fathers were well aware of what evil could accomplish if given free rein of an overpowering centralized federal government.

In other words, the U.S. Constitution was written specifically to stop the emergence of regimes like the one that currently has its grip on the American form of government in Washington DC.

But what do Conservatives believe, aside from limited government?

Conservatives believe that the U.S. Constitution is the law of the land, so conservatives believe in the rule of law. By way of the ninth and tenth amendment, if Article I, Section 8, or an amendment added since, does not give the federal government the authority to do something, it can't. End of argument.

Therefore, conservatives believe it is not the federal government's place to dictate social justice as being applied by the Left. Issues like health care, marriage and abortion are state issues. Any federal intrusion on those issues is unconstitutional. That makes Roe v. Wade unconstitutional, the current 9th Circuit court case regarding Proposition 8 in California unconstitutional, and the proposed health care bill by the Democrats unconstitutional.

The primary duty of the federal government is to protect the union, making National Security one of its most important roles. Protecting this nation includes having a strong military force, and deploying troops to fight enemies of this nation should those enemies commit an act of war against the United States. Protecting this nation also includes only allowing legal immigrants through tightly controlled borders, and making it difficult to come to America through strict immigration laws so that only those who truly want to be "Americans" are coming here. Enforcing immigration laws, sealing the borders, and deporting illegal aliens who refused to follow the laws of the United States to come here are part and parcel to winning the war on terror, as is using valuable tools like the Patriot Act for good intelligence. A large military budget is necessary because the defense of this nation is essential, and we are at war.

A healthy economy, which includes a thriving free market that manufactures and produces goods, which in turn adds value to the currency that monetizes the economy, is necessary for a strong economy. To boost manufacturing and production, we must cut taxes to leave more money in the pockets of the people for purchasing power, and cut corporate and capital gains taxes to leave more money in the business owner's hands for expanding their businesses. Regulations and restrictions on the private industry needs to be lessened, and this includes the idiotic excessive environmental controls and fees on carbon emissions, which are no better than any other taxes. I am not saying I don't believe we should be kind to our environment. I am saying that conservation, and most environmental regulations, are matters of individual choice, and the federal government should not intrude. By reducing regulations, and restrictions (by federal and state governments) on the free market, the number of jobs in this nation will increase, and the economy will thrive as manufacturing increases.

Our religious community should also be released from such a stranglehold by government. The idea of "Separation of Church and State" as used by the Left is not only not in the Constitution, but the Left's application of their anti-religion agenda in most cases is unconstitutional. Religious freedoms are being squashed, and disregarded. Threatening a church's non-profit status if they dare mention something political is unconstitutional. Churches have always been involved in tackling the tough and urgent social challenges that face this nation - but government is doing whatever it can to especially quell the church's ability to do what it has always done on the charity front. It is almost like government realizes that when churches help feed the poor, cloth the homeless, and help families get back on their feet and become productive again, they are taking away from the government more people that could be dependent upon the government, and big government proponents can't have that. Individual responsibility scares the Left. People who are not dependent upon the government, and stand up for themselves, don't vote for the people giving the handouts, and in turn that causes the Democrats to lose voters - and they are all about the vote. Nothing is more important to a Democrat than retaining their power, except maybe putting a Marxist program into place. In short, Democrats are more about their party, and eliminating liberties, than they are about principles, or doing the right thing in regards to the big picture for this nation.

As a conservative I am pro-life because I believe all life is precious, and nobody should have the right to snuff out the life of a child. Abortion is not about choice, it is genocide. The choice to live by the child is never considered. Abortion is becoming such a heinous industry that now they are pushing the murder of children up to full term, and leaving botched abortions to die on the table - gasping for breath, writhing in pain, and dying alone.

I am against government redefining marriage. Government shouldn't be in the marriage business in the first place, and now they want to redefine language to appease an agenda by people who can't control a behavioral sexual fetish. And don't give me this garbage about being born that way. If homosexuality is genetic, then "natural selection" (Evolution is what most leftists believe in, right?) would have breeded out the gene thousands of years ago. Besides, think about the morality end of it. If a person was born with the predisposition to be a kleptomaniac, it would not make stealing okay, and no laws should be passed allowing them to be thieves because they say they were born that way. Stealing is stealing, and sexual immorality is sexual immorality. Do what you want in your bedroom, I really don't care. Go to some liberal church and have the church make you a marriage certificate on their computer with the pastor's signature on it, and call yourselves married. Heck, you can even go to lawyers to get all of the rights afforded to married couples afforded to your union, if you really wanted to. Gays have the ability to do all of those things, so this is not about being allowed to have the same legal rights, or being able to call themselves married. The gay rights movement is about silencing their opposition, forcing government to sanction their behavior, being able to prance around their lifestyle in front of our children (thus forcing their bedroom upon us and our families), and to redefine language to justify their behavior because they can't control themselves sexually.

The right to bear arms is clearly stated in the second amendment. The federal government cannot infringe on gun ownership in any way, shape, or form. If a state wants to require registration, or the such, even though I disagree with that practice of requiring registration of weapons, from a constitutional point of view the state governments can do that - but the federal government cannot. Period!

It is not government's duty to take care of everyone's every little need, and to micro-manage our lives. That is our responsibility. The fact that the federal government is trying to do all of these unconstitutional things under the guidance of the radical leftist Congressional Democrats, and a Saul Alinsky student by the name of Barack Obama, is nobody's fault but our own - because we allowed it by not being involved, and not being personally responsible.

If we aren't responsible, idiots like the Democrats will claim it is their duty to make sure we are.

And if you just read all of this, and you want to whine and complain about it, feel free to send me an Email. I will be glad to promptly print the Email, and then place it in my shredder to serve as kindling for my fireplace.

You have the freedom to say what you want, so go get a blog and do so - don't bog me down with a bunch of inane, idiotic, ignorant, inept leftist drivel. It is because of the sheep on the left that we are in this mess in the first place, and it is up to us to turn this around. Scott Brown in Massachusetts is only the beginning. In November, if the party hacks of the GOP get out of the way and we put into position conservative constitutionalists, we will win back this nation, and stop the Marxist tyranny the Democrats are trying to force on the American People.
