Rory Markas, Voice of the Angels of Anaheim, Dead at 54

By Douglas V. Gibbs

When the Angels won the World Series in 2002 the voice you heard celebrating over the air, calling the win, in the Los Angeles area was Rory Markas. Rory was nearly as recognized as a symbol of the Angels of Anaheim as is the halo.

Tuesday afternoon Rory Markas was found dead in his home in Palmdale at the age of 54.

Markas, who spent eight years with the Angels mostly as a radio voice, was also the voice behind the University of Southern California men's basketball team, and served as the radio announcer for the National Basketball Association Clippers from 1994 to 1997. Markas also served as a news reporter for KTTV Channel 11 in Los Angeles, covering fires and other natural disasters, and a sports reporter for KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KNX-AM (1070) in Los Angeles.

Markas completed each Angels win with his signature, "Just another Halo victory!"

Rory Markas will be missed dearly.

Markas recently had a blood clot was surgically removed from his brain, but the cause of his death remains unknown at this point.
