Storms in California Declared a State of Emergency in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside Counties

By Douglas V. Gibbs

High winds and heavy rains continue in Southern California. Evacuations have been ordered in many of the foothill communities, most of them near the area where the Station Fire burned. While Governor Schwarzenegger is in Washington DC, Acting Governor Jerry Brown has declared a State of Emergency in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties.

Earlier today, because of the weather, Southwest Airlines canceled flights to and from the Burbank, John Wayne (Orange County), Ontario, and San Diego airports. Flash flood warnings have been issued for the entire city of Los Angeles. The Interstate 5 corridor through the Grapevine that connects the Los Angeles Metropolitan area with Central California has been closed in both directions due to the inclement weather.
