Uganda, a largely Christian nation, introduced the Anti-Homosexuality Act during the Spring of last year. The government believes that a crackdown on homosexual behavior is needed to protect the populace from horrific crimes like when an 11 year old boy was brutally sodomized, and then the attacker was later let go.
The purpose of the law is not just to protect the traditional family unit from being diminished by allowing homosexual behavior, but also to protect the population from death by the spread of aids. For example, for some offenses the death penalty will be applied, such as when an offender knowingly has HIV, and still commits the act.
When I was asked what I thought about the proposed laws in Uganda, I was split. Though I see homosexuality as very dangerous in many ways, I also still believe that despite the dangerous activity of homosexuality, and their attempt to rewrite the definition of marriage in America, God gave us the free will to make our own decisions, and it is entirely up to gays to make their own decisions, even if that decision is as dangerous as participating in potentially deadly homosexual activity.
