Former President Bill Clinton, after going to the hospital with chest pain, underwent a procedure to insert two stents into one of his coronary arteries today. Clinton is 63, and had a quadruple bypass surgery in 2004, and returned in 2005 so that doctors could remove scar tissue and fluid that had built up after that surgery.
Today's procedure was a success, and President Clinton is said to be in good spirits.
Dr. Jonathan Reiner of George Washington University, cardiologist for former Vice President Dick Cheney, said the symptoms Clinton had today sound typical of angina or ischemia, which happens when blood flow to the heart muscle is decreased by a blocked coronary artery.
Political Pistachio is praying for President Clinton to have a speedy recovery, and we hope he is able to continue what he enjoys, which includes assisting in the efforts in Haiti.
